Special Olympics Utah is proud to offer several health and fitness programs for our athletes, their families, and friends, providing year-round opportunities to move, learn, and grow!
We provide the following health and fitness programs to all adults and children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. All programs are completely free for participants and include opportunities to improve health, form lasting social bonds, and have fun!
Health Screenings
Through the Healthy Athletes program, free health screenings and education a provided for all people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Provided year-round by volunteer medical professionals in the following disciplines:
- MedFest (General Medical)
- Special Smiles (Dental)
- Opening Eyes (Vision)
- Healthy Hearing (Audiology)
- Fit Feet (Podiatry)
- FUNfitness (Physical Therapy)
- Health Promotion (Preventative Health Education)
Unified Fitness Clubs
A fun, free exercise class for people with and without intellectual and/or developmental disabilities! At each session, participants will participate in exercises, activities and games that focus on:
- Flexibility
- Strength
- Endurance
- Balance
Young Athletes Clubs
A play-based skills development program for children 2-7 years old that focuses on building developmentally appropriate motor skills through exciting games and activities that include:
- Foundational Skills
- Walking and Running
- Balance and Jumping
- Trapping and Catching
- Throwing
- Striking
- Kicking
- Advanced Sports Skills
STOP Diabetes
- An educational program focused on preventing type 2 diabetes through positive nutrition and physical activity habits, designed specifically for our athletes and their caregivers. Classes can be attended in-person or online and focus on the following topics:
- What is type 2 diabetes?
- What does it mean to be healthy?
- How does physical activity affect my health?
- How can I be physically active?
- How does what I eat affect my health?
- How much should I eat?
- How can I keep making healthy decisions?
